Opening in February 2011 in a renovated gas station just east of the Bridge of Lions, “Gas Full Service Restaurant” is the brain child of Chef/Owner Ben Loose and his wife Lindy. At this award winning eatery, Chef Ben incorporates local growers and producers which include Seminole beef, Fresh Start Hydroponics, and C& C Fisheries. Halpurn’s Steak and Seafood Co., and Halpern’s Small Family Farms are sources for his menu specials. Chef Ben prepares and bakes all his own breads for a menu that has something tasty for everyone. Ben Loose chose to open his restaurant in St. Augustine because of the local farmers, purveyors, and artisans available to him and he is adding more local products all the time. Every day you will find specials that reflect what is in season and sauces, dressings, slaws, and chips and bread are made in-house. All desserts are homemade, including Strawberry or Peach and Datil Fried Ice Cream – when in season. One Wednesday a month “Gas” presents a special dinner, partnering with small craft brewers and local or regional farms. So, whether you want Regular, Ultimate, or Premium, stop at “Gas” and leave with a full tank.
