29 South
29 South on Amelia Island is a chic neighborhood bistro on a tree lined side street in Fernandina Beach. This restaurant is dedicated to a genuine farm to table experience. Chef Scott Schwartz with his wife Nan Kavanaugh, the Farm/Garden coordinator, use the freshest ingredients sourced from local farmers and ranchers. Ingredients are organic, natural, and free-range whenever possible. Their own onsite garden yields organic vegetables and herbs which complement the seasonally grown hydroponics produce received from a farm partner in nearby Hilliard, Florida. The menu reflects “Regional American cuisine with a modern touch”. Signature small plates include Fried Green Tomatoes stuffed with goat cheese, Pulled Pork Spring Rolls, and Lumpy Blue Crab Cakes. Entrees such as Sweet Tea Brined Pork Chops on Macaroni gratin and Fried Shrimp and Grits will keep you coming back for more. Save some room for homemade desserts and artisan cheeses.
Truly leaders in the Slow Food movement on the First Coast of Florida, Chef Scott and his wife Nan continue to nurture and build strong relationships with the people who grow and raise the food for their restaurant. All of the farm partners are listed on the menu and Nan is conscientious about visiting the farms and ranches to explore new things to grow and raise for their menu.
