We are so happy that you are recognizing a business as a champion of Slow Food values. Please review the values that the business will be evaluated on. If it seems to meet at least 1-2 of the values, please let us know!

After we receive your nomination, we will contact the business and invite them to apply for our Snail of Approval. After an interview, if they seem like a good fit, they be added to both our website and the national Snail of Approval website and receive a Slow Food decal and flag to display at the business.

Slow Food's mission is to support good, clean and fair food for all. We are looking to recognize restaurants whose missions focus on any of the following values. Please let us know in which areas you think they should be recognized.

Local or sustainable sourcing: practices like getting goods and produce that are as local as possible, from places that are independently-owned, cultivated in regenerative agricultural systems, and (for animals) humanely raised.

Positive environmental impact: practices like recycling, composting, reducing food waste, donating excess product, using seasonal ingredients, and supporting environmental justice in your community.

Cultural diversity in food: examples can include working with traditional or heritage foods, celebrating the cultures from which the food comes, or giving voice to employees from a diverse range of cultures.

Active involvement in the community: examples like being financially and culturally accessible, hiring locally, supporting local initiatives, partnering with local organizations or charitable groups.

Support for staff: examples include a specific mission statement, educational or professional initiatives, wellness support, or, if scale and financial ability allows, maybe healthcare or paid time off.

Inclusive business values: inclusive hiring, diverse leadership, educational opportunities, policies that focus on equity, inclusion and justice.
