Volunteers Needed for Tour De Farm 2014

It is my absolute pleasure to invite you to participate in Slow Food First Coast’s 3rd annual Tour de Farm, April 13, 2014, from noon – 5 p.m. We pride ourselves in showcasing our local, good, clean and fair food system and recognize the vital role your farm plays in our health and the health of our community. Eating is one of the most important things we do every day. We understand that by supporting your production, we help preserve healthy soils, clean waterways and air, resilient communities and the nutrient dense food you provide with integrity. As an organization dedicated to a good, clean and fair food system, we wish only to honor farms with demonstrated commitment to sustainable growing practices.

The success of the Tour de Farm is largely contingent upon a dedicated group of volunteers that help make this event possible. We invite your group to assist in the tour and be a part of this amazing community event!

Our 2011 Tour de Farm was an overwhelming success with over 8,000 farm visits! Individuals and families enjoyed an afternoon of learning and participating in activities at over 20 of our local farms. With a huge community response and repeated requests we organized a tour the following year. Our second tour grew significantly and boasted 14,200 farm visits, a 68% increase from the previous year.

The 2014 Tour de Farm will provide people from the First Coast the opportunity to learn about our local food system. They will see where our food comes from and have the chance to meet the farmers who produce it. Individuals, families, groups, and businesses from our region and surrounding areas will select a tour or design their own from our electronic or paper Tour de Farm guide. Participants can enjoy the bounty of the land with lunch and local products to purchase.

We hope you will decide to join us in our efforts!

Please complete the short questionnaire and email it to kmdaurizio@gmail.com. Upon receiving the form, I will contact you to schedule an interview. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.

  1. My partner and I are willing to volunteer for the 4/13 events. We have been in touch with Carmen Franz of FOG. I can receive voice or text at this number:

I am currently on the staff of the Deptment of Health Promotion, University of North Florida, Ogier Gardens

  2. Hello,

I am from Dr. Kaplan’s Literature in the Kitchen course at the University of North Florida. I just attended the Tour De Farm volunteer session yesterday (March 24) at UNF and requested to be a part of a carpool group.

I just remembered that I will be spending time in Middleburg the weekend of April 13 and will be able to get my own ride to the site. If possible, could you please assign me to a farm that’s close to Middleburg? It would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much and hope this doesn’t cause any complications.

Hope to hear from you soon!

    Amanda Luu

  3. I don’t have a group but am very supportive of the slow food movement. I would love to help and specifically if Art Jennette needs volunteers
