Tour de Farm 2015

Discover North Florida’s seasonal offerings with local farmers and chef creations during Slow Food First Coast’s 4th Tour de Farm on Sunday, November 15 from 12:00 to 5:00pm.

More than twenty-five local farms will open their gates to the community for this family-friendly event. The Tour de Farm will provide people from the First Coast an opportunity to meet the farmers who produce local food, and chefs and artisans who are committed to using locally-grown ingredients.

During each farm visit participants will not only be engaging those responsible for producing their local food but also will be able to purchase seasonal produce, meats and locally-produced prepared foods.

While we will have some of the popular stops from the 2014 Tour, such as Barnes Farm, Cognito Farm, Down to Earth, KYV Organic, Navera Farm, and Traders Hill Farm, half the tour showcases newcomers like Congaree and Penn Rice Farm, Guerrilla Growery, GYO Greens, Rype and Readi Market, Urban Folk Farm, and White Harvest Farm.

Some farms opening for the very first time, so don’t miss this opportunity to tour. A number of local chefs and artisans have also signed on and are offering cooking demonstrations and tastings throughout the afternoon at various farms. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet Sam Efron Chef Owner of Taverna, Chefs Joe Natoli and Thomas Allen from Sawgrass Marriott’s Vernon’s Restaurant, Chef David Bearl, who trains and educates White House chefs and staff, and Chef Matt Gilligan Chef Owner of 904 Restaurant- all cooking farm fresh seasonal ingredients.

Other participating restaurants and Food Trucks include Black Sheep Restaurant, Corner Taco, Delish, Orsay, La Cocina, Southern Charm, The Fish Co, The Floridian, and This Chick can Cook. Representatives from these and other restaurants will be found at farms across the region during the Tour.

New to this year’s Tour de Farm is the Car Pass, valid for an unlimited amount of farm visits. Participants can go online to SlowFoodFirstCoast.org to make a donation and reserve their Car Pass for family and friends. The brochure will include four suggested loops and participants in the Tour de Farm can select from one of the planned tours or design their own route for the afternoon.

The full Tour de Farm brochure will be available on the Slow Food First Coast website during the last part of October.  Local businesses and libraries will also act as distribution points for printed brochures. The November issue of Edible Northeast Florida magazine will feature a Pull-Out Map and Informational Guide. Pick up your copy of Edible at Native Sun Markets and dozens of other locations in and around St Augustine and Jacksonville.

Updates to the event will be posted on the organization’s website and Facebook page as new developments emerge. Reserve your Tour De Farm Car Pass today! Buy a car pass, pack your car with family or a group of friends, grab a tour guide and set off to celebrate Northeast Florida’s fall harvest.

Each pass is valid for one car load of passengers.

When you finish purchasing your Tour de Farm Car Pass, save or print your emailed receipt. You will submit this receipt at the first farm you visit in exchange for your pass. The car pass can be purchased the day of the event – CASH ONLY – from any of the participating farm locations.
